Our Most Economical Ice & Water Barrier

Arctic Seal® is a durable, waterproof, self-adhering underlayment made for areas of the roof most susceptible to leaks. Arctic Seal® can also be used as a high-performance, all-roof underlayment.

Product Details

Ice & Water Barrier

A new roof requires more than just shingles. It’s a cohesive, coordinated system of 5 parts. In order of installation, they are: 1) ice & water barrier, 2) underlayment, 3) starter shingles, 4) field shingles, and 5) hip & ridge shingles.

 

The ice & water barrier sits under the shingles and the underlayment to provide an extra, waterproof membrane in more leak sensitive areas like roof valleys, edges, and transitions.

 

Malarkey offers two ice & water barriers tailored to asphalt shingle roofs. Arctic Seal® is our most economical.

Water Barrier

Made with our proprietary NEX® Polymer Modified Asphalt for extra strength and durability, Arctic Seal® provides an extra layer of leak protection in more critical areas like roof valleys, roof edges, and roof-to-sidewall transitions where rain, snow, and ice are more apt to accumulate.

Helps Prevent Leaks Due to Ice Dams

In colder geographies, ice damming is when snow melts and refreezes at the roof edge, forming a dam which prevents additional snow melt (water) from draining off the roof, instead creeping beneath the shingle and leaking into the house. Arctic Seal® is engineered to help prevent leaks due to ice dams.

Installed First

When installing a complete 5-component system for your new roof, the ice & water barrier is installed first, prior to the underlayment.

Modified Asphalt

Made with proprietary NEX Polymer Modified Asphalt for exceptional weathering and extra strength, flexibility, and durability to resist damage and last longer.

NEX® Rubberized Asphalt

Self-Adhered

Sheet is self-adhered (adhesive is activated by direct sunlight and radiant heat, and applied with pressure). Self-adhered roofing eliminates potentially dangerous fire hazards and unpleasant odors from the low slope roofing process.

Strong & Durable

Modified asphalt sheets are constructed with a sand surface to improve walkability and safety, and an underside of aggressive, asphalt-based adhesive to ensure adhesion. The sheets are reinforced with rubber and plastic polymers on a non-woven fiberglass mat to deliver greater tear strength than conventional felt membranes for lasting durability.

Water Resistant

Naturally waterproof asphalt helps resist water penetration.

Faster Installation & Split Release

Sand surface can withstand 90 days of direct sunlight, providing a waterproof roof for longer duration installations.

Advanced Adhesion

Among industry’s highest adhesion uplift rating for greater confidence sheet will remain securely in place after installation.

Nail Sealability

Self-sealing properties of the sheet provides protection against leaks around nails.

Enhanced Warranty

Enhanced warranties are available when product is used in a complete roofing system of Malarkey shingles and accessories, and installed by a Malarkey Certified Contractor.
