Secure Start® HT (high temperature) is a self-adhering underlayment with superior thermal stability and adhesion properties, making it the right choice for complete deck coverage under metal.

Ice & Water Barrier for Shingles, Underlayment for Metal

A new roof requires more than just shingles. It’s a cohesive, coordinated system of 5 parts. In order of installation, they are: 1) ice & water barrier, 2) underlayment, 3) starter shingles, 4) field shingles, and 5) hip & ridge shingles.

The ice & water barrier sits under the shingles and underlayment to provide an extra waterproof membrane in more sensitive areas like roof valleys, edges, and vertical transitions.

Malarkey offers two ice & water barriers tailored to asphalt shingle roofs. Secure Start® HT was designed for metal roof applications but also delivers superior performance under asphalt shingles.

Water Barrier

Made from recyclable polymerized polyolefin, in five unique layers, Secure Start® HT is a synthetic, waterproof membrane that provides an extra layer of leak protection in more critical areas like roof valleys, roof edges, and roof-to-sidewall transitions where rain, snow, and ice are more apt to accumulate, on both metal and asphalt roofs.

Given its superior performance, it is recommended in more extreme climates, areas with higher elevation, high winds, and wind-driven rain, and those more prone to ice damming.

High Temperature Performance

High temperature resilience makes Secure Start® HT a perfect underlayment for detailing and waterproofing complex roof designs for both metal roof applications and under asphalt shingles.

Enhanced walkability during installation keeps contractors and crew safer on the roof.

Installed First

When installing a complete 5-component system for your new roof, the ice & water barrier is installed first, prior to the underlayment.

Key Features

Self-Adhered

Sheet is self-adhered (adhesive is activated by direct sunlight and radiant heat, and applied with pressure). Self-adhered roofing eliminates potentially dangerous fire hazards and unpleasant odors from the low slope roofing process.

Strong & Durable

5 plies, with a synthetic polyolefin reinforcement layer, provides greater tear strength than conventional felt paper underlayment for exceptional durability.

Constructed with a sand and/or polypropylene surface to improve walkability and safety, and an underside of aggressive, asphalt-based adhesive to ensure adhesion.

Water Resistant

Non-porous monolithic layer of polypropylene helps resist water penetration.

Faster Installation & Split Release

Self-adhered membranes have a factory-applied split-release film that protects the adhesive and is removed during installation.

Safer Installation

High tear strength and embossed surface design help prevent accidents by providing an anti-skid surface for workers, and keeps roofing materials from sliding.

UV Stability

Incorporating UV resistant polymers, sheet surface can withstand 180 days of direct sunlight, providing a water resistant roof for longer duration installations.

Mold & Rot Resistant

Polypropylene surface is non-organic and non-porous to resist mold and rot.

Fire Resistance (FR)

Class A fire rated in a system assembly over a combustible or non-combustible deck.

High Temp Rated for Metal

Rated to 260 degrees Fahrenheit for use under metal roofing.

Non-Scratch Surface for Metal

Constructed with a soft polypropylene surface that prevents scratching of metal during installation.

Advanced Adhesion

Among industry’s highest adhesion uplift rating for greater confidence sheet will remain securely in place after installation.

Nail Sealability

Self-sealing properties of the sheet provides protection against leaks around nails.

Enhanced Warranty

Enhanced warranties are available when product is used in a complete roofing system of Malarkey shingles and accessories, and installed by a Malarkey Certified Contractor.
