Another Memorable Year: 2017 Malarkey Roofing Trend Recap

With 2017 drawing to a close, we look back on the 61st year of Malarkey Roofing Products®. This year was shaped by sustainable product innovations, impressive roofing contractor projects, and inspiring style trends for the modern home. In the following, we’ll recap some highlights from another memorable year.

New Products

We began the year debuting the Vista™ laminated architectural shingle, made with Nexgen™ polymer modified asphalt technology. In 2016, Malarkey introduced Nexgen™, utilizing post-consumer or post-industrial, recycled polymers. By May of 2017, Vista™ quickly became the company’s most successful and popular product launch to date.

In the low-slope roll roofing category, Malarkey also introduced the 524G RCap™ Plus, a solar reflective, granulated cap sheet. Like the Vista™ roofing shingle, the RCap Plus cap sheet was designed with sustainability in mind. The solar reflective cap sheet helps reduce the temperature of the roof and building below, while limiting the urban heat island effect in developed areas. This product was featured on three large commercial projects in Southern California in the spring.

Impressive Project Profiles

Showcasing the work of roofing contractors is integral to sharing our shingles with others. In our Know Your Roof blog, and our social channels using #roofingexcellence, we have featured many interesting project profiles from seasoned roofers to charitable volunteers. The projects included unique geodesic architectural designs, rejuvenated barns, and a beachfront coastal lodge. We also made sure to share the stories of selfless community members helping out their neighbors in need. No matter the size of the residence, everyone’s home is his or her own castle.

Exterior Style Inspiration

There’s a lot to consider when reroofing, and the home’s exterior style is an important part. In addition to highlighting our essential roof designer tool this year, design inspiration and aesthetics were discussed. For instance, black and grey shingles can provide needed contrast to exterior siding, while brown and tan tones can accentuate earthen textures to match surrounding landscapes. With a wide variety of color options, Malarkey blends roofing shingles for consistent presentation.

Looking Ahead to 2018

While the holidays may afford us a moment to pause and reflect on a successful year passed, Malarkey Roofing Products® is poised for an exciting year ahead. Look for continued innovations in polymer modified asphalt roofing shingle technology, as well as unique stylistic approaches. We hope you’ll join us in the coming days, either as a certified contractor or stopping by our booth at a show.
