Whether you’re installing polymer modified asphalt shingles atop roofs, or manufacturing them as we do, every week can feel like roofing week. This week however, is exceptional. Malarkey celebrates an important part of our industry with many partners, at the beginning of each summer.
National Roofing Week, led by the National Roofing Contractors Association, is designed to “increase awareness across the U.S. about the significance of roofs to every home and business and share the good deeds of the industry. The week also promotes the importance of hiring a professional roofing contractor and making informed decisions about maintaining or replacing any roof system.”
This year, Malarkey has taken upon an elevated role as a Partner Member of the NRCA's One Voice Initiative to promote our shared cause. Our involvement was established in December 2017, and formally announced in May 2018.
"As a leading manufacturer of performance-driven, sustainable roofing products, we aim to be a valued partner member of the One Voice Initiative," said Jim Fagan, CEO and president of Malarkey Roofing Products.
According to the release, NRCA launched its One Voice Initiative to “unite the roofing industry and speak with one voice about matters critical to the roofing industry's continued success. NRCA believes the roofing industry has matured to the point where the views and concerns of contractors, manufacturers, distributors and others in the industry align on the vast majority of issues they face. There is a clear consensus to move the industry forward together, and NRCA is reaching out to manufacturers, distributors, architects, engineers and consultants with the goal of having them become fully engaged with NRCA, as partners.”
Citing the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the NRCA is pushing for collective efforts to restore the pool of qualified labor in the roofing industry which lost close to 30 percent of its workforce during the recession. One such way is to attract millennial workers to replace a steadily aging workforce. Malarkey also encourages roofing contractors to join, and become active in industry associations such as NRCA, for their shared benefits and advancement opportunities to all participants.
Malarkey works with a variety of other industry groups in a number of capacities. For instance, Malarkey is involved with regional groups such as the Western States Roofing Contractors Association that holds the annual Western Roofing Expo, and the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association. Malarkey leadership is also present on the boards of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association, a trade association representing North America’s asphalt roofing manufacturing companies and their raw material suppliers.
When association participants gather from all aspects of the roofing industry, they share perspectives about the related aspects of their work. From these conversations, relationships foster and education is shared mutually. In a sense, that’s what Roofing Week is all about, sharing in the importance of roofing and improving the industry as a whole. See how the week unfolds by following the hashtag, #nationalroofingweek.
