Malarkey hosted more than 50 contractors for a two-day training event in Olympia, Washington last week. The event, lead by our Northwest sales team, focused on new product details and innovations. The Malarkey technical services department from Portland, Oregon, also shared installation tips during demonstrations.
On day one, the demonstrations included the introduction of our new synthetic underlayment, SecureStart™ Plus. The product’s slip resistance was demonstrated simply by throwing a shingle on the sloped surface, just like in the field, where it stuck with a thud. Next, the new Smart Start™ spilt starter was shared as a quick solution for under the first course of shingle as part of our residential systems. Then, Technical Services Manager, Matthew Felt, displayed proper shingle installation method for the Legacy® XL and Windsor® XL shingle lines, while Malarkey representatives Kenji Kumai and Brian Krohn discussed their features and benefits.
Malarkey co-hosted the Northwest Training Expo with 3M and was additionally supported by sponsors Metal Era, Georgia-Pacific Gypsum (DensDeck), and Hunter Panels. Presentations were given by several of these partnering sponsors to further increase the educational benefits for attendees. For instance, special guest consultant, Heidi Ellsworth, gave valuable insights for roofing contractors to promote and market their business.
Closing the first day of instruction was our Senior Vice President, Greg Malarkey, who shared exciting developments in Malarkey’s Nexgen™ polymer modified asphalt technology. The story of Nexgen™ begins with sustainability and illuminates the fact that not all asphalt is the same. Nexgen™ is Malarkey’s conscious effort to include quality reclaimed content in polymer modified asphalt and yield a flexible, impact resistant shingle for all seasons and climates. Greg’s vivacious delivery of an inspiring message concluded a great day for the expo.
On day two, the focus was on low slope systems. Starting with the OmniSeal™ fully self-adhered system, Matthew Felt and Steep Slope Supporting Product Manager James Malarkey, displayed the ease of installation in the 3-ply system. Also a CERTA certified trainer, Matthew then gave the crowd a torch down demonstration of Malarkey’s Paragon® TG line with assistance from representative Cody Grabenhorst. Matthew concluded the product demonstrations with the EZ Seal™ line, Malarkey’s fast curing, PMMA, with tips for installing the product in the field.
Malarkey is constantly innovating and releasing the next new product; it’s important to keep our customers educated on what is available for them in the field. With over 50 contractors in attendance, each participant walked away new experiences, education, and excitement for what’s available to them to help grow their business. We look forward to holding these expos in more regions later this year, so stay tuned!
