Malarkey Roofing has again achieved the Waste Diversion from Landfill certification in all three of our facilities by GreenCircle Certified. In 2016, we continued our strong commitment to sustainability, and remained focused to recertify. GreenCircle provides third-party certification of sustainability claims through a rigorous scientific evaluation based on internationally recognized standards and guidelines.
The product design process at Malarkey Roofing Products considers many aspects of a product’s performance, construction, life cycle, and components. Granules are an integral part of a roofing shingle. Not only does their asphalt adhesion help keep shingle colors vibrant, but granules can also be engineered to perform and protect in certain climates.
You may think of hail as simply bouncing off your roof and rolling down into the gutters. You may also think that, unless the hail is the size of a softball and puts a hole in your roof, there may be no damage at all. Unfortunately, most hail damage is subtle at first but shows excess damage over time.
Malarkey Roofing Products recently worked with the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) to complete Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) focused on both steep and low slope roof systems. An EPD is a standardized way to help customers better understand the sustainable qualities of a product and its environmental impact over time. As one of several ARMA members, Malarkey contributed data for the industry studies.
Traditional underlayment is commonly referred to as felt or tar paper, and is made of paper saturated in asphalt. Malarkey’s new SecureStart™ Plus, however, is an advanced lightweight, synthetic underlayment for steep slope residential roofs. SecureStart™ Plus is comprised of five layers which provide secured redundancy and improved durability.
For many years, our loyal contractors asked us when we would create a certification program for residential contractors. Recognizing this demand in 2014, the Certified Contractor Program was created to further strengthen relationships between Malarkey Roofing Products and our customers. Over the years, the program continues to evolve along with the reception from both contractors and homeowners.
Roofing shingles protect your home from the elements. One of the many elements that shingles protect your roof from is driving wind. Malarkey utilizes a specially formulated adhesive to seal shingles to the roof. Strong winds can threaten to lift shingles from your roof if they are not properly secured. In addition to being properly installed by a Certified Contractor, Malarkey uses lines of SEBS polymer modified asphalt sealant to help hold the shingle in place.
Over the years, Malarkey has driven innovations in asphalt technology to help ensure that these granules stay on shingles for longer. Malarkey Manufacturer Representative Kenji Kumai explains the importance of granule adhesion for roofing shingles, and why Flexor™ polymer modified asphalt provides superior granule retention.
Malarkey Roofing Products® manufacture more than just shingles; we also have an extensive commercial and low slope product line. In fact, for nearly forty years, Malarkey has been the leader in the SBS polymer modified roofing industry with an array of base, ply, and cap sheets that perform in a wide variety of climates. The 524G RCap™ Plus cap sheet is the newest addition to the Malarkey catalog of low slope products.
Malarkey shingles are designed and engineered to beautify and protect a home. As part of the roof system, the shingles and underlayment limit the impacts of weather and exterior elements on the structure. Much like wearing a waterproof jacket, shingles and underlayment act as a protective membrane, but require ventilation from heat and moisture beneath. Without proper ventilation, many problems can arise, including a reduction in service life from the shingles themselves, according to Dr. Joseph Lstiburek of the Building Science Corporation.
