Our Most Economical Underlayment

Secure Start® Lite is a lightweight, synthetic underlayment providing a layer of moisture protection over the entire roof, and suitable for use under fire-rated, code-compliant roof coverings.

Secure Start® Lite works well under asphalt shingles, wood shakes/shingles, metal, slate, and mechanically-fastened roof tiles.

Product Details

Underlayment for Shingle Roofs

A new roof requires more than just shingles. It’s a cohesive, coordinated system of 5 parts: 1) ice & water barrier, 2) underlayment, 3) starter shingles, 4) field (roofing) shingles, and 5) hip & ridge shingles.

As the name implies, underlayment sits under the shingle and provides a vapor barrier covering the entire roof.

Secure Start® Lite is our most economical synthetic underlayment for shingles.

Moisture Barrier

Designed and constructed with four unique layers, Secure Start® Lite is a synthetic, water resistant membrane applied to the wood decking of the entire roof as an extra layer of water penetration protection and backup to your shingles.

Anti-Skid

Secure Start® Lite’s non-woven surface layer provides a slip resistant walking surface and makes steep slope roofing installations safer in all weather conditions.

Installed Second

When installing a complete 5-component system for your new roof, underlayment is installed second, after the ice & water barrier, and prior to the starter shingles.

Mechanically Fastened

Sheets are applied with 1″ diameter plastic or metal cap fasteners.

Strong & Durable

4 layers, with a synthetic polypropylene woven core and polypropylene non-woven top, provides greater tear strength than conventional felt paper underlayment for exceptional durability.

Water Resistant

Non-porous monolithic layer of polypropylene helps resist water penetration.

Sustainable

Made from recyclable polypropylene that be re-used for new product production at the end of its lifecycle.

Wrinkle Resistant

Lays down flat and does not wrinkle when moist or wet.

Enhanced Warranty

Enhanced warranties are available when product is used in a complete roofing system of Malarkey shingles and accessories, or when installed by a Malarkey Certified Contractor.

Warranty

1029 Secure Start® Lite is eligible for expanded warranty coverages relative to its use in combination with others in a complete Malarkey roofing system (Standard Shingle & Accessory Warranty) and as part of Emerald Pro Warranty installations. Installed separately, it carries a 10-year product warranty against manufacturing defects. Contact Malarkey’s Technical Services Department for details.
